The next DOKU.TECH is coming June 10th, and 11th, 2017 to Termokiss in Prishtina then continuing after on August 5th in Prizren during Dokufest. We will once again bring you some of the most curious minds of the tech world to discuss Fear, Hope and Everything in Between.

/

We’re bringing you careful observers able to spot patterns in accelerating changes that technology produces in society. We’re bringing you innovators who are pushing the boundaries and breaking the walls to move us all forward. We’re celebrating local and international talent who will look at Balkan challenges and opportunities within the context of global issues. We're bringing forward thinking DJs to spice things up and add a dash of party to the event.

We invite you to listen, question, doubt, suggest and discuss. Don’t hesitate to bring your fears, hopes and everything in between. We might not always be able to turn every fear into hope but we can try together to better understand complex processes shaping our lives ever faster. To predict and understand the problems waiting us around the corner and to prepare to solve them.

TERMOKISS is an abandoned industrial building turned into vibrant community center by group of young activists. We are excited to stay connected with our mother festival, Dokufest. Come here to learn more about our traditional DOKU.TECH on August 5th, 2017 in Prizren.

SCHEDULE

Venue: Termokiss - Prishtina

12:30 - 16:00 Workshops, Masterclasses and DIY

People will get a short introduction on the history of controllers and a comparison of good designs with classic and nonclassic setups. In the second phase of the workshop I will ask the people in teams of 5 to design a little game or just a controller idea where the only tool is their bodies (eg. Rolling on the floor, or hitting each others knees).

"Python and Raspberry Pi"
Programing Rasberry Pi while using Python programming language - the participants will learn about the Raspberry Pi component and what can be programmed. As well as develop a program that will control the raspberry pins by connecting it to the sensor.

"Internet of Things"
Using littleBits and Arduino platforms, we will create systems that communicate with one another to achieve a goal: turning on a light using a remote or smartphone button, controlling temperature or movement in the room from distances, thus helping the participants take their first steps toward the application of the Internet of Things.

In this workshop we will try to feature some examples of good practices in visual storytelling. Information by itself can be hard to disseminate without the appropriate visual component following it. Visual communications offer a more intuitive approach and can be used for targeting various audiences. The workshop will be given by Olivia Solis, designer and visualization specialist, and Andrej Petrovski, a tech researcher and data analysis enthusiast.

Talks
16:00 - 16:05
Opening Remarks
Kushtrim Xhakli

It has never been as easy to share ideas, thoughts and experience, yet in an age of universal greed: sharing is a (r)evolutionary act. I like to see myself as a Robin Hood of power; taking the power from the powerful; giving it to the powerless; the general public. Since laws have the same power as the church, the gods and the demi gods, shifting power in a peaceful fashion can be a legal transformation or even an action. Hacking the legal code can be a worthy mission of any white hat.

Lessons from net.art - what we wanted to do and happened to us.

LOOKING INTO YOUR ONLINE LIFE is a pop up shop with a twist, a space for reflexion, experimentation and play on how our we live our lives online. The Glass Room is curated by Tactical Tech.

The talk will revolve around the creation of the Doku.Tech brand and expand mostly on the creative process around it. How Kokrra builds these brands and the approach of translating a philosophical concept into a very pragmatical result will be discussed and shared.

Innovation is the buzzword of our age. Governments are busy trying to work out how to support and cooperate with Startups on a national, municipal and even development cooperation level. Why is investing in start-ups and digital innovation a good idea and under what circumstances is it justifiable to do so with public money? How do start-up and innovation cultures differ around the globe? Why do we need more innovators who are pushing for impact instead of a quick exit strategy?

Social media have heralded unprecedented advantages for society. They have promoted increased interaction, facilitated political exchange and made people feel much more connected to a larger community. But the ease and rapidity with which information spreads in social media has also turned them into a breeding ground for unreliable information and fake news.

PONDER: Critical Media Literacy is a non-formal educational response that expands the notion of literacy to include mass and social media. Youth today are bombarded by a volume of information unthinkable just a few years ago. It is important that they are conscious and aware of the information they encounter and are able to understand it and evaluate it from a critical perspective, so as to challenge indoctrination, anti-social messages, and radicalization.

In this workshop we will discuss some basic game design theories and will make our own analog games using nothing but our imagination. Maximum number of participants: 20. No previous knowledge or material / gear required.

Everybody today talks about private and public cloud services that needs to be deployed in the companies. In regards of compliance, bandwidth and other regulations this is not always possible. The data often needs to reside in the company or in the country. Hybrid Cloud services is the solution for this. We will talk about how to plan and set things up and how to monitor them properly.

This workshop will host 10 participants and requires no gear or prior knowledge to join. It focuses on the team mentality, broken down into roles within the Overwatch universe. Part one of the workshop will include an intro to the five aspects of E-sports gaming: Mental Training, Daily Routine, Emotions, Tilt and Motivation. Part two will include learning these aspects by doing versus observing on the newest E-sport Overwatch.

Talks

In the 21st century enterprises are faced with the common challenges of scarce resources, increased supply chain transparency and changing consumer expectations. In order to be successful, entrepreneurs must learn new paradigms for deploying and blending financial and social capital.

Jona Repishti is the Network Coordinator for the International Development Innovation Network at the D-Lab MIT where she manages a diverse, global network of over 600 innovators working in 50+ countries to design, develop, and disseminate low-cost technologies to improve the lives of people living in poverty. Jona also manages the MIT Scale-Ups Fellowship. Prior to D-Lab, Jona worked for various United Nations agencies taking part in short projects in Haiti, Kenya, Kosovo, and China. She was also the founder of Mjaft! (Enough!) Foundation promoting youth civic engagement in her home country, Albania.

Matan will talk about his award winning inventions translating physical signals such as brainwaves, heartbeats and motions into music. His talk will feature a live demo of his latest project - turning hand movements into music.

17:20 - 17:35
Networking Break

Walid will show some worldwide examples and how we @ Digitalmania and with International NGOs are using gamification techniques and video games to try to impact our society. I ll talk about : MallaJ3ala anti corruption game, Dannous a video game dedicated to financial tools education.

We don't "just read" or “just play games” anymore. We experience stories. Exploring how storytelling can involve our sense of sight, touch, smell and hearing, Saad Chinoy will go deeper into bringing the digital experience into the real world.

Storytelling is a function of the affordances of your devices. Understanding how technology can offer your audience new entry points to your story can help tell it better, but without a story the technology doesn’t carry the same meaning. That is, online and offline, print and digital – working together, these produce the most captivating results.

18:45 - 18:55

Closing Remarks
19:00 - 21:00 Evening Program

Whatsapp, Gmail, Google Search - we use these apps and tools because everyone else does, and because... what else is there? This workshop will enable you to think more critically about the tools you use, what questions you should ask, and why the answers matter. You will also be introduced to some alternative chat apps, email, and search tools that allow you more control of your own data. This workshop is suitable for anybody with a laptop, mobile or tablet - no expert knowledge required.
